WAAS - 1st SEMSOAC Session: Key achievements / upcoming activities



The 1st session of the 1st SEMSOAC Seminar took place on the 4th and 5th of September 2019 in the SOAC premises. It focused on the requirements of the new version of ISO IEC 17025 v2017, on the regulatory framework for accreditation in West Africa, including the mechanism to regularize the situation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) accredited by foreign accreditation bodies, in the light of the Community texts in force on accreditation within SOAC Member States. The Director of Promotion of Quality and Standardization, also SOAC National Accreditation Focal Point in Côte d'Ivoire, Ms. AZODA, co-moderated the session on the applicable regulations, in particular for Côte d'Ivoire, the 2013 Law 866 which obliges all CABs to be accredited.
Two participants from Burkina and Togo made the trip to Abidjan for this first SEMSOAC Session.
Upcoming activities:

  • ISO 15189 pre accreditation assessment of CENTRE DE TRANSFUSION SANGUINE / Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, 6 September 2019;
  • On the 7th of September 2019, the second session of SEMSOAC N01, which concerns the assessors, candidate assessors and technical experts, will focus on the risk approach in ISO IEC 17011.
  • 9-13 September 2019, SOAC Headquarters, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire: Training Workshop on the requirements of ISO IEC 17065 (Accreditation of Product Certification Bodies) and ISO IEC 17024 (Accreditation of Personnel Certification Bodies). The attendees are representative of the ECOWAS Accreditation Bodies: GhaNAS (Ghana), NiNAS (Nigeria), and SOAC. The Workshop is organized with the support of the West Africa Quality System Program (WAQSP);
  • SOAC to welcome from 19 to 27 September 2019 the 10th General Assembly of the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC)
