Ms. Laura HAEUSSLER, project coordinator at PTB for Sub-Saharan Africa (working group 9.35) paid a visit to SOAC on January 17, 2020. She was accompanied by M. Stanislas TAPE and M. Sévère AMON, respectively Head of Management of the Quality and Deputy Director of Metrology at LANEMA, the national calibration laboratory in Côte d'Ivoire.
Ms. HAEUSSLER briefly presented the main activities of the new phase of the ECOWAS PTB Program which includes assistance to ECOMET, the ECOWAS Community Metrology Committee. She also indicated that cooperation is being studied with the West African Health Organization (WAHO), the ECOWAS specialized agency in the field of human health.
The DG presented the main results and challenges of SOAC and ECORAS, the ECOWAS Accreditation Cooperation, which brings together SOAC, NiNAS (Nigeria accreditation body and GhaNAS, Ghana accreditation body). He recalled that SOAC hosted the last General Assembly of the African Cooperation in Accreditation (AFRAC) which was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in September 2019. This first in French-speaking Africa was organized in close collaboration with PTB, main partner of AFRAC. He informed of SOAC availability to support PTB activities in the region, in particular in the field of accreditation of training centers and laboratories.
