WAAS - Senegal has hosted 15 June 2019, the first national information workshop on the WAAS



The Senegal hosted on 15 June 2019, the first national information workshop on the WAAS, specifically dedicated to medical laboratories. The workshop was organized by the Directorate of the laboratories of the Ministry of Health and Social Action. As part of the initiative GLOBAL HEALTH / HEALTH ONE, the workshop was extended to representatives of food safety laboratories in food and animal biology. Prof. Iyane SOW, Director of laboratories, provided an update on assistance to laboratories in Senegalese territory particularly with the implementation of the checklist SLIPTA. With this tool, mapping laboratory was developed, resulting in a ranking of laboratories with respect to their technical performance. He recalled that Senegal adopted a ministerial order which mandates the implementation of ISO 15189 in all clinical laboratories based in the country.
The WAAS presented its regulatory framework as the sole accreditation body of WAEMU States to serve the protection of West African consumers. Its services were also reviewed. KAKEMONO Accreditation Day. Finally, the theme of the World Day 2019 accreditation was briefly recalled to know "accreditation, value added in the supply chain." The discussions focused on the costs of the WAAS accreditation services within the framework of the application of regulatory texts, transfer mechanisms to WAAS accreditations issued by foreign accreditation bodies to laboratories instead the role of local experts in the running of the WAAS. Participants were informed about the establishment by UNIDO, particularly in connection with accreditation bodies, international database of conformity assessment bodies. They were invited to register in the database in connection with the WAAS.
Dr. Siby, GD of the 1st laboratory accredited to ISO IEC 15189 Human Biology in Senegal, which closed the workshop on behalf of Pr. SOW, recalled that the WAAS emanates from the willingness of WAEMU states to have their own accreditation body; as he urged everyone to get involved so that this Community instrument is performing.
